‘These Gentle Lands’ at Cambridge Contemporary Crafts June 2025

These Gentle Lands brought together a meditative dialogue between image and object—featuring new paintings by Jo Rance and Polly Luce.

In this show, the quiet beauty of the British landscape intertwines with timeless craft. Rance and Luce’s paintings—rich in subtle tones and depth—offered a poetic backdrop to my steam-bent, clinker-constructed trugs. Together, our work evoked memories of place, rhythm, and ritual, layered with texture, form, and emotional resonance.

I feel honoured that my trugs were shown alongside these immersive works, in a setting where tradition meets modern mindfulness, and where the past and present converge in silent confidence.
